What is happening
Italy introduced the controls on August 1 and is notifying the European Commission of the 15-day extension. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said the decision followed an assessment by the Committee for Immigration Analysis and Border Security, while also recognizing measures undertaken by Spain and the European Union. The sources report different dates for Spain’s measure: one says it will remain in force until September 7, while another says it has been extended until September 21. Spain had previously asked Italy to lift its restrictions and introduced reciprocal checks from August 8.
Why is it on the Radar?
