What is happening
Di Battista was hospitalized on Friday after several days of severe headaches, a loss of consciousness and, according to the sources, a stroke diagnosed by doctors. After regaining consciousness and responding to physicians, he was transferred from Santa Clara to a more advanced medical center in Havana. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani spoke with him by telephone and offered the government’s assistance. A medical aircraft is available for a possible return to Italy, subject to medical approval. Di Battista also replied to messages of support on social media.
Why is it on the Radar?
His possible return to Italy depends on whether doctors determine that the transfer can take place without risks to his health. The Italian government has said it will provide the necessary assistance.
