What is happening
The order includes 12 intercity trains for the Athens–Thessaloniki corridor and 11 suburban units. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027 and will be supported by a 10-year maintenance programme. The trains will include ERTMS, ETCS and GSM-R systems, as well as technologies designed to reduce energy consumption by up to 10%. Preparatory testing on the Greek network was completed in June 2026 ahead of the authorisation process with the European Union Agency for Railways.
Why is it on the Radar?
The investment is described as the largest private investment in Greek land transport and is intended to add new intercity and suburban rolling stock to the Greek rail network.
