What is happening

Salvini announced a proposed “save Euro 5” measure within a transport and infrastructure decree. He said the aim is to keep current arrangements in place throughout 2027. The proposal responds to restrictions planned by some regions, including Lombardy. Salvini said Italy has nearly four million Euro 5 diesel vehicles and argued that many owners cannot afford to replace them.

Why is it on the Radar?

If approved, the measure would delay the planned restrictions and give affected vehicle owners more time before changing cars. Salvini also said the Italian government would oppose what he described as pressure from Brussels over the issue.
