What is happening
Speaking at Forza Italia’s youth event in Montesilvano, Tajani said Perego was the right candidate after the centre-right failed to identify a civic figure able to attract moderate voters. Perego said the campaign should begin immediately. Maurizio Lupi and Lega MEP Silvia Sardone remain among the names under consideration. Tajani said Futuro Nazionale had left the centre-right and called it “the opposition’s fifth column.” Futuro Nazionale’s possible participation in the coalition was therefore ruled out in his statements.
Why is it on the Radar?
The centre-right has not yet finalised its candidate for Milan, while Forza Italia has formally put forward Perego. The statements also mark a continuing political divide between Forza Italia and Futuro Nazionale.
