What is happening

Tajani said Forza Italia would present Perego, a lawmaker and undersecretary for Defence, to its centre-right allies for consideration as the candidate for Milan mayor. He said the decision would be made together with the allies. Several Forza Italia figures backed Perego, while Ignazio La Russa said other candidates, including Maurizio Lupi and Silvia Sardone, were also strong contenders. In Reggio Calabria, Tajani said Roscioli would run for the vacant Chamber seat against Domenico Giannetta, who moved to Roberto Vannacci’s Futuro Nazionale. Tajani and Roscioli said they expected to defeat the centre-left.

Why is it on the Radar?

The announcements advance Forza Italia’s proposals for two centre-right contests, while the final choice of the Milan candidate remains subject to discussions among the coalition’s parties.
