Mattarella said global challenges—including climate change, pandemics, energy, food and water resources, and artificial intelligence—require greater cooperation among states. He warned that power politics, the use or threat of force and pressure on the multilateral order risk increasing instability. He described the European Union as an example of shared sovereignty and urged changes to its institutions and decision-making so it can play a more active role internationally. He concluded that peaceful coexistence within a shared and respected legal and institutional framework is necessary for a prosperous and lasting global economy.
